Skype is developing a VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) software for exclusive use on the n97. The Skypey-goodness will be fully integrated into all handsets before they go on sale this June.
Unlike other Nokia handsets, the N97 will feature all the high end services you’d associate with using Skype on your home computer. You’ll be able to make free voice calls, send instant messages and use widgets to see how many of your friends are online at a certain time.
Skype are working with Nokia’s S60 platform but we’ve been assured that the applications under development are to be used exclusively with the N97 handset and won’t be available on other S60 phones…yet.
Skype Chief Operating Officer, Scott Durchslag said about the partnership, “We are starting at the high end, but you will see it in the mid-tier. Below that it’s hard to deliver a good quality experience.”
